Property/Casualty Training We are pleased to offer an instructor led Property/Casualty Pre-Licensing Training Program at the Big I Maryland Headquarters in Glen Burnie, MD. Our training program will satisfy the 40-hour Pre-Licensing requirement. Upon completion, you will be eligible to sit and complete the state licensing exam. Please see below for more information regarding policies and pricing. Dates/Time: Monday-Friday | 9:00 am-4:30 pm Location: Big I Maryland Headquarters | Glen Burnie, MD Course Fee: Members | $300 (Agency must be a member of Big I MD) Non-Members | $350 (tuition does not include the cost of the MD State Exam) Course Components: Each registrant receives the Maryland Property & Casualty Pass Package textbook which includes access to an online exam simulator, the Candidate Information Bulletin and the Property/Casualty Exam Outline. All material is distributed on the first day of class. Attendance Policy: In order to be eligible to take the state licensing exam you must attend all five days of class. If you miss any amount of time, including showing up late, you will be asked to re-register for the next available class at your own expense. No transfers will be given. There are absolutely no exceptions! |

Pre-Licensing Quick Facts: What's Next: Scheduling Your State Exam Upon completion of the 40-hour course you will be eligible to schedule and sit for your Maryland State Licensing Exam. The state exam is administered by Prometric. You may now complete the state exam in two ways: (1) in a physical test center (2) in a remotely proctored testing location using Prometric's ProProctor. You are responsible for scheduling and paying for the state exam. The cost of the exam $60. You can only schedule the exam once you have satisfied the 40-hour requirement and you have received your candidate eligibility number.
This is a one-part exam that will cover both State and General Content. There are a total of 120 questions (plus 10 unscored) and you will have 2.5 hours to complete the exam. The exam outline can be found here.
State Licensing Exam Restriction: If you fail the state exam, you will need to retake the exam. You must wait four days to reschedule/retake the exam. |
What's Next: After You Pass The State Exam Upon completion of the state exam, you will now be eligible to apply for your initial insurance license. You can apply for your license by visiting the National Insurance Producer Registry. The cost of the initial license is $54 plus a $6.18 transaction fee charged by NIPR. Apply For Your Insurance License Continuing Education Requirements: Now that you hold a Maryland Property/Casualty producer license you are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education, including 3 hours of ethics education every two year renewal term. If you sell Flood, you are also required to complete 2 hours of Flood education every two year renewal term. You can learn more about the Maryland CE Requirements here. |
Pre-Licensing Education Waiver A Pre-Licensing Training Program is not required of a candidate who: 1) Holds one of the following designations:
2) Has been employed by an insurer, producer, or agency for a year or more (within the past three calendar years). If you have worked for more than one employer within that year of employment you will need to get each employer to fill out an affidavit. If either of the above apply to you, please fill out the Education Waiver/Employer Affidavit found here and submit to the MIA for approval. Eligibility Period for P/C Waiver: Effective October 1, 2018, the Pre-Licensing education waiver will be valid for six (6) months
